Sorry if this has been covered, but it's tough to search for '5' and 'P' here on TB...
Anyhoo, when installing a split P pickup, where one coil has 2 poles, and the other has 3, is there a 'correct' way to do it? I see Nordstand basses with the 2 poles forward under the B and E, and I see Valentis with the 3 poles forward under the B E and A.
Yet Fender has it 3 forward on their 5 string P's, but 2 forward on their Deluxe Precisions.
Which is it, or does it even matter?

At first it was in so B-E were together on one half like this
but i changed them around so B-E-A were together, like this.
I cant say i heard any difference at all.
Norstrand put them the first way around and i believe Sadowsky use the second way.
This pup is different from the Fender P5 as both half's of the Nordy are the same size, with one having the pole pieces blanked out (or removed) whilst the Fender has one half longer than the other.

I like to keep the A in he same place as a 4 string P. The other way around the A is in a different location and sounds a little different. Not better or worse, just different |

Strictly from a technical standpoint, there shouldn't be any difference as you've got two magnetic poles under each of the strings, and two equal-size coils providing equal sensing aperture for hum. But there might be something to it - I don't have a P5 here to try it out on so I'll keep my mouth shut.
Either way, testing is as simple as swapping them out.
