5 way switches mod...

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a bass with two 4 lead humbuckers. What I am thinking about doing is adding two 5 position switches to control coil selection, so that I can control each pup independently of the other. So, the neck pup would be controlled by the neck switch and the bridge pup by the bridge switch.

Settings would be... (1) series, (2) parallel, (3) neck coil, (4) bridge coil, (5) off.

The off setting would allow me to avoid having a pup selector switch.

I could get the most popular series/parallel humbucking states...as well as "jazz" style by running outside coils only, or "stingray" style by running inside coils only. Or the illusive "Lakeland" style by running two bridge coils and one neck...

So here's my question... Has anybody ever worked up a diagram for wiring a switch this way? Don't want to bend my brain more than necessary if someone has already invented this wheel ;-) I haven't gotten far enough with my sketches yet to even really know if this is possible, but figured that someone here may have already tried something similar...

Thanks in advance!

Have you been on the Seymoure Duncan site
also is it a strat style 5 way switch that you are thinking of useing ?
You might be able to do it with 1 super 5way switch.

cheers B.

FWIW I was searching for this same topic, and here's the closest thing I could find on the SD site: http://www.seymourduncan.com/support...ic=tele_2h_4ws

It shows only a 4-way switch, but it should be easy to use a 5-way and leave the 5th position dead if you want it to be an off switch anyway. That's what I plan to do.
