5-wire pickup?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just ordered a new single pup for my sons Fender Bronco.

This pup comes with a 5-wire setup. Is anyone familiar with this? Or have documentation about the 5-wire choices?

thx.

they are usually humbuckers, 2 wires for each coil (+ & -) and a common ground.

they do this so you can wire it up in funny ways (series/parallel, bucker, separate coils of same pickup) im not familiar with broncos, do they have P like split coils but smaller more G&L like pickups?? if so then its probably the 2 coils of the pickup need wiring (as they are wired series so one set goes into the other set and create a bigger output/tone)

ok just checked its probably a stacked humbucker (2 pickups one on top of the other) i have stacked buckers in my jaguar bass, its really simple to wire up, if you dont get instructions with it i would try a meter on the wires (i am not very clever with electric stuff so take my suggestions with a tiny pinch of salt), basically the + of one coil goes to the - of the other then the + and - that are left are the ones you use to connect to the pots as any other pickup (+ to pot lug - to pot case/earth loop), if you get a thin sound reverse the wires between coils and that will be it sorted i think.

thx darthplagis...hopefully it comes with notes.

The Squire Bronco has just a single strat/tele style neck pup. Not sure why they did this - maybe these guitar pups are cheaper. There are actually 6 posts on the bottom of the stock pup which shows that it is indeed a guitar pup. It measures in at 4 KOhms.

Also the pup mounts to the pickguard like a strat. Too bad because I could've dropped in my old 62 jazz re-issue neck pup I have.

Here is the ad for this pup:
________
This pickup, the "HOTWIRE" from Diesel Pickups is a single coil pickup with super sparkly bell like tone and increased presenence - this pickup has serious tone! These are cast in Epoxy to greatly reduce unwanted feedback and microphonics. The 5 wire lead can be split for coil tapping to get even more different tones out of your bass! Resistance comes in at 7 KOhms.
