50s Classic Precision pickup question

Sign in to disble this ad
Looking at the Fender website under specs for the MIM 50's Classic Precision, it names the pickup as "Vintage Precision Bass".

It shows the same thing under the AV '62 P-Bass.

Are these the same pickup?

And also, are these the exact same as the Fender "Original '62" pickup available on the market?

Thanks.

No. The 50s P has a different pickup with raised pole pieces in it.

Thanks for the response. On the 50's P I have the poles are flush with the black plastic covers. Does that mean it can still have raised poles? I'm a total newb and hungry to learn.

The O'62 pickups are used on the AV '62 but not on the MIMs.

What pickup actually will be used on a bunch of their basses seems to be variable and unpredictable, which is why the verbal descriptions are so vague.

"Vintage Precision Bass" can mean anything. I recently disassembled two brand new 2011 Highway One Precisions made on the same day. They had completely different pickups and different tone circuits.

The "Vintage" pickups in the one I kept were straight 2011 American Standards. [shrug]

Got it. I then assume the pickups in my MIM 50's P are not the same, which is what I wondered and why I asked. I just wondered why they'd put the same pickup in a $1450 MIA bass as a MIM bass at half the cost.

I guess the "Vintage" pickups in my 50's Classic P could be anything that was on the bench that day.

Thanks for your assistance. This place rocks.

I have a 2006 50s classic p and have been unable to ascertain what exactly this pickup is either. I looked on here and the Fender forum as well and no one seems to know exactly if this is special to this model or what. If it ever fails, I'll pull it to replace and maybe we'll find out.

Read somewhere on TB that the 50's Classic Precision has the pickup that's in the MIA American Standard Precision bass.
