50's precision pickup question

Sign in to disble this ad
for some reason i want to build me a 50's precision. but i play with a heavy right hand most of the time and hitting the poles is a pain in the ass... so question is... what could i put in place of the stock p'up that isnt active and doesnt have exposed poles?

Look into the Dimarzio Willpower middle DP146. It's a P pickup designed for Billy Sheehan. Before that pickup was introduced to the market, he used to coat the tops of his P pickup with epoxy to make a perfectly flat surface that also covered the polepieces.

ty for the info, but i'm more looking for a straight single, not one of the more modern precision p'ups.

if all comes to it i cna just take a little piece of pickguard material and put a layer of it over the top.

In that case, you could use a common Telecaster pickup, such as a DiMarzio FastTrack T or a similar bladed pickup, and cover the polepieces (in this case, the blades). The pickguard material cover is a great idea, Billy Sheehan uses it on his DiMarzio WillPower humbucker and it works grand.
