51 P-Bass control plate question!

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone have any experience swapping out the 51 Reissue P-bass (Japanese) control plate with one from either a Mike Dirnt or Telecaster Bass reproduction that have the larger control shaft holes? Are they all interchangeable? I know the pickguards are not interchangeable but wondered if the control plates were somehow close enough with each other to work. I want to put Fender USA/CTS pots in mine while swapping out the pickup and bridge and the REISSUE control plate holes would have to be drilled or reamed out.

Also does anyone know if these larger standard CTS pots will fit in the control cavity of the 51 P-bass reissue in the first place? Looks like you'd really have to rout it out a bit more.

Maybe they should have called these things "51 Reproduction Precision Bass" instead of "Reissue." You'd think a reissue would be pretty much the same. With their tiny pots these things are more like cosmetic reproductions! Well at least the tuners are reverse.

Thanks!
