55-02 preamp upgrade

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys,

i'm just wondering about the pu/preamp configuration about my 55-02. As i dig alot in the mids on the preamp, everyone knows it kinda of trouble to open the cavity box and adjust the preamp's mid "dip switch"

besides that i really like the Lakland tap coil configuration either, so my point for this thread,I'm not sure whether there is such preamp that has the kinda of configuration.

I need a preamp with mid freq selector[toggle] and this tap coil toggle in the preamp so this will save me troubles for digging the internal mids too much. Well i'm quite "NOOB" in electronics in the sense especially for preamps

about the pickup upgrade maybe a nordstrand MM5.4 particularly suited for lakland's tap coil. yupp well i guess i need a couply of suggestion.

The coil tap is separate and not part of the preamp--it's wired to the pickup before it goes into the preamp--so you can just leave that installed no matter which preamp you go with.

There are lots of preamps with switchable mid controls. Some, like the Bart NTMB, are even available with the mid frequency switch built into a push-pull pot for the mid control, so you don't need to drill another hole in the bass. How many different mid frequencies do you need to have available? (As you can tell, the Lakand circuit was designed to let you pick one mid frequency that works best for you and leave it...)

okieeeee thanks for the explaination for the tap toggle.

i guess i might need 3 different mid settings, 250, 600 and maybe 1k?

Perhaps i guess another bass with this kinda of configuration would be a better choice

yupp i'm pretty satisfied with lakland electronics deinately. I guess i'll not upgrade the lakland and just leave it as what lakland is for! hahaha
thanks anyway cheers

As I understand you're tonally happy with your preamp and you just want the ability to change mid freq on-the-fly. Am I correct?

Why don't you contact Lakland about this? They may steer you in a direction in which - perhaps - one or two push-pull pots will replace the dip-switches.

Other that that, I know OBP-3 or U-Retro will let you have variable mid-freq pot.
