Question (may have been addressed--sorry)-

Can a drop a 6-string pickup into a 5-string bass? I've got some passive SD pickups in my 5 and Bartolini P4's fit the measurements--exactly. If I drop in the P4's (a six-string pup), will they work fine in the bass, even though they're labelled as a "six-string" pup?

I'm thinking of swapping out pups--and I don't really want to wait 6 months for Bill Bartolini to make "custom" pups for me.

Depends. The bartolini's are a blade pole design, so string spacing isn't normally a problem. Except that some of their designs have a quad coil, so you're middle string will be sitting over a gap. You just need to check.

The used to make a 5 string pup in the P4 shape...

Do you have any numbers on the back of the P4's? That will tell you the coil layout. If it's the dual coil model you should be fine, the quad coil could be a problem as mentioned.
