62 jazz bass problem. horrible hum

Sign in to disble this ad
hello and thank you for taking the time to look at my problem i have a 62 fender jazz bass. a year or so ago i noticed that there was this buzzing noise coming from the i guess its the guitar. i have a svt 4 pro running to an 810e and the cord is brand new. i have tried playing everywhere like at my house, band practice, some gigs etc..etc..etc and still the same buzzing noise. the cord fits fine in the jack and nothing appears to be loose. i have noticed that it stops when i hit the top of the nobs leading to the neck and bridge pickup (i dont think its coming out of the tone pot) if you could elaborate with me and tell me what you think is wrong i.e., bad solder or rust of some sort that would be excellent. let me know if you need pics.

thank you

It's a grounding issue.
I'd take it to the best luther you have available.
Not because it's a difficult problem, but rather to insure that you don't have a hack messing with a valuable bass.
Like needlessly resoldering a vintage pot.
Messing with original soldering will devalue a old bass.

When you say it's a 62 , I'm assumeing that it's a 1962 and not a reissue.

Sounds like the grounding wire to your bridge may have come loose at one of it's ends. Check under the bridge first. If it seems fine you will have to take the pickguard off and look at your controls for a loose connection.
