70's Dave Schecter Hand Wound Jazz Bass Pickups?

I have a set in an old 80's Valley Arts Jazz with a '76 Fender neck. Does anyone have any info on them?

Dave Schecter started Schecter Guitar Research in 1976, and was one of the first custom winders. He was well known for making single coil pickups with taps.

He sold the company in 1983, and it was later purchased by the same company that owns ESP Guitars. So that's the same company known as Schecter today.

These days he runs Ozone Guitars

You can email him there and he would have more into on those pickups.

Yep, those definitely look like the Schecter Monstertones. I have a set in a Jazz bass too. They've been made pretty consistently since the 70's. They're still available on USA Custom Shop Schecters. Mine came from a 1996 California Custom.

I was in cahoots with Schecter last year and they said they're thinking of starting to sell their pickups again, similar to how they did business way back when.

The pickups come in tapped and non-tapped versions. Very difficult to come by!
