Active to Active Passive OK, I have used the search function but some of the answers are just over my head. I have a 2000 Fener Deluxe Jazz bass that is active. What I want is to add switch similair to the new Deluxe Jazz. I would like to be able to switch from active to passive. Is it a simple job or to I need a new preamp? Not much with electronics,, so please keep it simple, lol. And I won't be the one doing the mods ( I have a friend who will do it) |
You might need a new preamp, it depends on what you want in passive mode. A simple DPDT toggle switch is all it takes to route the signal around the preamp. In passive mode you will have no tone or volume control, just the blend pot that allows you to adjust the pickup mix. Is that OK? You can use an external volume control pedal. The Fender's with active/passive switches have a passive mode volume control and the newer MIA models also have a passive mode tone control. To get those features will require more extensive modifications and might best be had by buying a new preamp that has them built in. Ken |
