Advice on bass tone controls for custom bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm building my first bass and I'm using 2 Seymour Duncan quarter pounder P pickup sets. 4 string bass with maple-neck thru with mahogany body. I want to have active--passive tone controls with a 3 band EQ. This is what brands I have looked at so far. Anyone used one of these or have advice?

Aguilar obp-3--3 band EQ, I like the selectable mid range freq on this one, 400 or 800 hz.

Glockenklang 3 band EQ,

Seymour Duncan STC-3p Active tone circuit for passive pickups.

Carvin 501B active passive 3 band EQ,

thanks, rh2music

I'm not sure what that means.

Do you mean a passive tone control in addition to the 3 band EQ?

The EQ will only function in active mode. The only thing you could do in passive mode is the passive tone control.

You can wire a passive tone control into an active harness, similar to the design on the Sadowsky VTC. My latest build has the Aguilar OBP-2 with this very feature. Bestbassgear.com offers the Aggie with a prewired option so you wouldn't even need to futz with it.
