Advice on Fender Jazz V replacement pickups and bridge

Sign in to disble this ad
I posted this on the regular board but probably posting this here might be better. I just got a 2004 MIM Fender Standard Jazz V Bass and immediately I want to change the pickups. I'm trying to get a more soulful crisp tone with a deep bottom and eliminate the noise. See video of Badu with Brother B on bass http://youtube.com/watch?v=76dnvEaX3eU
What will be the best pickup to guide me to that tone. Also,
I came across the Lindy Fralin 5 String Standard Jazz Pickups and wanted to know if anyone on here had checked them out. Someone said that you can have the fralins customized, either overwound or underwound, but I don't know how much overwound I need them for the sound that I want and also how much can my bass take.

Your MIM Jazz will get you very close to that tone out of the box. That sounds like a standard passive jazz bass tone with both pickups full-on to me. Your fingers will have more to do with getting to that tone than any hardware changes.
