Advice on pups that will fit mtd kingston heir..?

Sign in to disble this ad
Im wondering if anyone out there has ever replaced the pickups on an MTD KINGSTON HEIR 5st (the one with the MM and J configuration) The Mtd kingston site hasint responded and I want to be sure the replacements will fit. Im leaning towards bartolinis or nordstrand. but Im also open to ideas if anyone has had success with other manufacturers in the same instrument. The delanos seem very nice as well but Ive never had experience with them as I have with the barts and nordys. Any help here would be so appreciated!! Thnx..-J

response to ur advice

-SGD Lutherie, Thank you for your advice, I appriciate anyone willing to put forth thier time in order to help. I just want to respond quickly to say that no "all" MM shapes will fit in the routings of the mtd kingston heir. For example any MM designs featuring a phantom or Dummy coil underneath requires a much deeper routing as its depth is extended to incorporate the extra coil. Second thier are Pre-ernie ball, and some other stingray shapes that are "extended long shape" that at least makes up 1/3 of MM style pickups offered by the top manufacturers. Maybe I should have been more specific but Im looking for an MM/J pickup arrangment that will fit my bass WITHOUT extra routing. If anyone has bought delanos, barts, or nordys Id like to hear from you guys..! Thanx so much!! -J

Most of the 5 string MM replacements, except for Duncan, are the older pickup with the tabs, which is what your bass uses.

I didn't notice you had a 5 string when I posted that. Obviously 5 string Jazz pickups are harder to come by.

But you still have choices.
