I was looking for some thing a little different to install in my project jazz.
I was thinking of trying Areos after reading the reviews.
I noticed the type 2s on the web site and called Larry Pollack to ask a few questions.
“Type 2 - clear acoustic sound with lower output than Type 1”
They arrived last Thursday and I’ve had a few days to play with them.
They defiantly have a clear sound. The low end is tight and deep. The high end is bright and smooth, without being brittle or ear piercing.
At certain tone settings, they do bring out the acoustic tone of the bass.
Not like an upright or an acoustic bass, but like the Jazz unplugged.
The output isn’t low by any means, they required no volume changes on the amp when switching basses.
With fuzz (I do love fuzz) there isn’t a question of will I cut through or get lost in the mix, it’s more of a “crap you can hear every mistake”.
I couldn’t get a muddy sound out of them even using chords and dark fuzzes.
In short I really like them.
