Aero MM replacment - anyone using these?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a flea bass with LP's. Recently, I have heard this crackling noise and was hoping it was my preamp. Come to find out its not and I got the whole preamp uninstalled and the noise still persists.

Since I kind of belive in the saying, "once bitten, twice shy" I dont know if I should hunt down another LP MM or not. But then again, I dont know how great the modulus bass is without them. I recently went to bass central and played my bass with barts instaled and it was pitiful.

So, I have been really impressed with aero's jazz pups, and his extensive knowledge (if anyone has ever called him, you know what im talking about). But his price for MM replacements are really high and I was just wondering if anyone has heard these? Thanks

Could you have a bad solder joint, or some other electronic problem? One way to test this is to wire the LP directly to a 1/4" jack and see if the problem persists.

Its sorta hard to tell. When I hooked up the PU directly to the jack, including the bridge ground, I guess my amp at home isn't grounded well but I cant seem to pick up the sound. I recorded the noise when I had the preamp installed, and it even showed up when I was recording some solo stuff. I might rip that stuff to my computer and post it up here.

Im tempted to juse send off the pre-amp to get it tested, just in case (especially befor I possibly spend more money on a new pickup.)

Do you know a tech, or have a friend who can help you troubleshoot? I'm not sure exactly how you have things wired up. If your pickup has a two wire + ground output, did you connect both the shield and one of the remaining pair to ground, with the other to hot?

I have Aero type 1 jazz pups in an FBB custom, Best passive pups I have ever heard, period. I am sure the MMs will be the of the same quality.
