| Aero Musicmasterer -- what tone?

I have a '78 Fender Musicmaster that I use for practice. I've always liked the feel of it so I've been thinking about playing out on it but the stock pups aren't that robust (Fender actually used 6-pole Strat pups). My regular basses are a Jazz with Nordie NJ4's and a Stingray.
Aero makes a replacement pickup for the Musicmaster (which they call the "Musicmasterer"). I asked them how it would sound -- more like a P, or a J, maybe? -- and they said it would just sound like my bass unamplified, so if I like that sound get the pickup. I think I get that, because I play this bass unamplified all the time. But even if my unamplified bass sounds good, replacement pickups -- a P, a J, or a Darkstar --would sound different amplified, wouldn't they?
Before I drop the cost of the pups ($150), shipping to Alaska, and installation, can anybody give me a clue what a Musicmasterer pup might do to change the sound of this instrument? Uh . . . more like a P, or a J, maybe? |
