Aero Type 4 J PUPs

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I was wondering if anybody here has tried them and what do you think of them?

Their site has this to say about them:"Type 4 - Type 1 pickup for fretless, tappers, and harmonic players. This pickup is a closed cover design (no exposed pole pieces)."

My bass I was looking for replacement pickups is fretless, so, this got my attention. I also like to play harmonics and tap a note here and there.

Also, if anybody has experience with these, what P type pickup is a good match.

thanks.

I had them in a Frankenbass that had a bartolini 3-band preamp. To be honest, I didn't like them at all (both active and passively). They were very brittle sounding to me, and super bright -- two attributes I do NOT like in my sound. I swapped them out for some Bartolini split coils...(9J-something...), and they're much better sounding. Warmer, more organic, less annoying highs, very dynamic.

I believe the Lakland Darryl Jones basses have the Aero's as stock pickups...if you can find a store that has them in stock, you can try them out (passively anyway).

Let me know if I can elaborate on anything.

Was it the Aero type-4 that you put in or a different model?

I thought it was Type 1, but let me see if I can find out...this was a year or two ago.

edit: sorry, I thought you were seeking info on Type1's...
