Aero vs Nordstrand 5-string clips inside

Sign in to disble this ad
Here are the soundclips of Aero and Nordstrand 5-string single coils as promised.

Facts:
- The bass is a Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones signature 5-string. It has swamp ash body, rosewood fingerboard. It came stock with Aeros, 500K volume pots and 250K tone pot. Strings are fresh Lakland steels 40-60-80-100-128T strung thru body.
- Aeros are longer (Fender size), Nordstrands are shorter. I put the Nords in Aero covers but the holes and poles did not exactly line up preventing a precise pickup height adjustment, but I tried to be as close as possible.
- In each take I recorded two channels: One direct without any processing and one with my usual setup consisting of a Carl Martin compressor and Sansamp RBI. You'll figure which is which by looking at file names.
- Sorry about the fact that B string wasn't kind to me at upper registers; I am a sloppy 5-string player! Also don't mind the occasional fret buzz.
- Samples are fingerstyle. I also recorded separate slap tracks but don't take those seriously since I am a terrible slapper.
- Fingerstyle samples start with neck pickup soloed. At 1:40 both pickups are on, and at 3:16 bridge soloed. Tone is fully up all the time. You'll figure the slap samples...

I made this for comparison only. Nords have their place in Sadowsky. I like them both.

I cant really tell a diff. I've had both, I went and bought AEROS directly from Aero for my JoBo5. Both are great pups. I would ahve thogutht he Aeros carried the B better, but, again, cant tell.
