Never bothered with them on the SX P/J here BUT I got a FAME/Hondo P bass clone that has had Seymour Duncan Basslines put in it by a previous owner. I like them a lot. I think they are about $60.

What can make a HUGE difference is to correctly set your pickup heights. On the red P here with Basslines, the previous owner had the D-G pickup set lower than the E-A pickup so the response was uneven. I took them out and added additional foam under the pickups to get them set so their output is similar to my other basses(play normally, preamp stays clean. Play hard, preamp goes into slight distortion).

Seymour Duncan SPB-1 sound identical to the stock pups. If you want a more modern sound, the SPB-3 are nice. If you want a truer "vintage" sound, then I'd go with the Antiquity series.

I was going to have a Nordstrand NP4 installed in my custom, But Dan insured me the SPB-1 had a more vintage tone (which is what I wanted). Plus, Nordstrand was backed up.

If you want vintage, go with the SPB-1. A Fralin might not be a bad choice for you either. Fralin pickups are amazing.

Ive got a Fender 62RI pup in mine and it sounds a bit more "earthy" and with a bit more punch.
Before that i had a Wizard Thumper in it and that too was a nice improvement over the stock one.
