Question Ag or Glock?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,
I have an Ibaneze RD500 that has an MM J pu set up. I want to switch these out for a pair of Dimarzio DP123's (Model J's) and I want to put a new pre in at the same time. I play Funky/Blues, and Meters type originals. My bass is strung with flats, so I'm looking for a punchy, old school "on steroids" tone. Round bottom, punchy low mids, and very little highs (if any).
I've narrowed my choices down to either an Ag OBP1, or the 2 band Glock with the passive treble roll-off. Any one with experience, thoughts or opinions, please reply.

Thanks for your time.

Johno!

I have no idea how it will work with the Dimarzios, but I have the Glock pre and think it's great. Pretty darn transparent and powerful when you need it...

Can someone elaborate on the Glockenklang preamp's treble control?
According to the website, the treble band is centered at 18K. Unless it has an insanely wide bandwidth, i don't see how it's of any use.
The average human hearing range is only as high as 20K, and that range decreases as we age.
I can't imagine that a bass could put out anything audible in that range.

Hello Line6man,

I've got this pre in my Roscoe and indeed, I think it has a large bandwidth.

That treb control is very musical and not arsh at all. It is a bit like changing your strings for new one.

In passive mode, that treb control becomes a very uselfull passive roll off.

IMHO great design and great musicality

Regards

Agreed. very musical. The best way i can desscribe the treble is that it "opens up" the tone, adding air, and sheen. When you cut, all defination of the note remains, and just takes some edge off. Completely usefull across the spectrum.
