I hear people say things like "that pickup is more aggressive" but what does that really mean?

YouTube clips might help if you got any

i could think of bands that the bass player has an agressive tone due to a pickup swap such as ian grushka of new found glory. joe principe of rise against. the sound is very out front and it cuts through. the tone has a very nice bite to it aswell.

Usually its classified by something with some high-mids or treble bit to it with a solid bottom. Usually not, particularly round or warm...almost clanky. It's a lot easier to get an aggressive tone with a pick than with fingers, I find that it relies a lot on technique from the player in addition to EQ'ing properly

Prominent bass, boosted middle/upper-mids (600-800hz or so), and a bit of treble. Mild overdrive helps as well.

Think: EMG DCs.
