Agressive pup combos: hit me

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for a new bridge pup in my Franken-Aria 4-to-5 jazz, cause the newly put passive MEC's don't do a terrific job, in fact they sound kinda hollow compared to the stock pups (huge magnet, one big open polepiece per string). I can live with the neck pickup, it gives me a nice upright tone with enough bass, but the bridge pickup doesn't have enough growl or output.

My current options are DiMarzio Ultra J (set), SD Alnico MM, EMG MMTW, Delano JMCV5 (set), Bartolini 59J1 (set). Any suggestions? Should I go with a MM or a jazz pup?

Get a Duncan ceramic MM. The alnico's are dull sounding. The ceramics have a lot of bite and are louder.

I do a lot of these mods for one customer

What's the spacing on that one? On the SD site it says .65something, or 16.7mm, and that's where I'm at but the one you posted looks kinda wide to me. I'm getting mine from an online shop in Germany so I don't really want surprises.

I'm sure what ever their website says is right. These are standard Fender and Squire basses.
