Aguilar 924 with active bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought a Aguilar 924 to use on my Passive J Bass and it works well. A few days I bought a new 5 string that is active and I am wondering if the Aguilar would be reccomended with the active bass. I have not tried it yet I was curious what others do. I have read somewhere were it does not help that much with active basses. Thanks

Will probably work fine, but won't likely make much difference as you already have a buffered, low output impedance source.

It depends on whether or not you like the sound of the pre in the bass or not. I used to use mine with my old Tribby L2K with it set in passive mode and it sounded great. Also used it with my HH Stingray cause I'm not a fan of the EB 3-band EQ sound, so I ran the Musicman with EQ set flat into the Aggie and it did a pretty good job of retaining the basic stingray sound but with EQ options that sounded better to me, until i installed an East MM pre. And running the active Stingray into it caused no problems at all with volume or distortion, so i say give it a try! Just start with your active bass in passive mode if that's available, or with the active EQ set flat.
