Aguilar AG-4J Pickups

Just saw this on the Aguilar site. New pickups from Aguilar! That's new territory for them. I don't know about anybody else, but I love my Aggie gear.

Here's what the site says:

"The Aguilar AG-4J pickups are designed to have both clarity and warmth and will reproduce all of the dynamics and nuances in your playing.

This pickup set is modeled after a mid 60’s single-coil Jazz Bass® pickup. The AG-4J uses all the period correct parts, including Heavy Formvar wire and Alnico V magnets. Aguilar developed a proprietary winding pattern to give these pickups great string-to-string consistency while sounding full and articulate. The pickups complement any bass and are a great match with Aguilar’s OBP on-board preamps.

Available as a calibrated neck and bridge pickup set (also available separately) for four string basses. Both, the AG-4J single pickups and sets are direct replacements for Jazz Bass® style basses.

Specs:

Wire: Heavy Formvar, 42 gauge

Magnets: Alnico V

Cable: Single conductor, cloth-covered"

I don't suppose anyone has tried these yet. I'd sure like to hear what people think!

I haven't tried them, and they may well be fantastic pickups for all I know. My experience, however, has been that you usually get a superior product from a company that produces a more limited range of things and focuses their energies on them. Aguilar's recent effort to get into the whole range of bass gear, from amps, speakers, pedals, and now pickups (are basses next?) might be a good business model, but I wonder if it will eventually yield lesser products.

I have an Aguilar preamp (DB659) that I like a lot. Otherwise, I have mostly stuck with gear from one-item companies (Crown power amp, Acme cabs, etc.) with great results. I wouldn't mind trying a Kern preamp with this notion in mind. I might like it even better.
