Aguilar or Audere with Nordie DCs

I'm building a Warmoth Gecko and have decided on Nordstrand DC pick-ups. I've seen them matched most times with the Aguilar OBP-3 pre. But I've heard so much about the Auderes. What do you think?

Either circuit will be great with the Nordie Dual Coils.

Both circuits merely enhance the basic sound produced by the pickups - and there are loads of folk on this forum who have found that the Dual Coils work exteremly well with the EQ set "flat"

I haven't used the Audere myself, but I know that the Aguilar circuit is very flexible, and extremely "musical" - not at all harsh. I also know that the Audere is getting soem great responses from folks who have been using it as well - so I guess it's all down to personal choice, huh?

I've tried the Aguilar and like it but cannot try the Audere before I buy it. Looking for opinions from those who have tried both and can compare/contrast.

I vote Audere though both are great...

Simply because if you're using DC's you're missing out if you don't have each p/u with a paralell-series-single coil switch. Doing this would allow you to get your major sound shaping from differnent flavors of pickup combinations. Then let the less "invasive" Audere eq do the subtle fine-tuning adjustments to your sound.

You'll have a lot more "character" to your tones this way than EQing heavily w/ the Aggy to get different tones and only changing p/u sounds w/ a traditional pan pot.

Just a personal opinion to approaching different tones via onboard electronics.

A lot of your decision should be based on the styles of music you play. If you do more rock/funk/slap, I would drop in an Aguilar because it has more boost and cut. The bass and treble can start an earthquak!

If you're more of a jazz/fusion/studio/all-around guy, then I would drop in the Audere because it's so natural and transparent. Not as hyped up as the Aguilar.

I've tried both in Roscoes and that's what I come away with. They are both great preamps.

hope this helps.

If it's any help, I've just ordered an Audere EQ to go with my Nordstrand DC's to go into my BTB1005

I already have a custom bass with Nordstrand/Audere combo and I'm extremely pleased with the result.

I am getting DCs installed in my CB bass with an audere pre. The audere site does mention that the z mode (i dont remember if it is high or low) works better with the pickups in series. So it would probably be a good idea to have your dc's in series if you get the audere. Or just get a series/parralel/single switch as mentioned above.
