Aguilar J pickups!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

Didn't see a thread on this so thought I'd start one.

2010 Winter NAMM had a very nice, clean Aguilar booth with all their pedals and amps on display. Nice reps. Also they were using the best basses to play through their amps and pedals - Mike Lull, Alleva, etc.

The coolest thing was that the [edit] Lull had Aguilar pickups inside. No 5 string yet, only 4, but through the NAMM noise they sounded great.

Anyone have an inside scoop?

Aguilar pickups? I worked at the Alleva-Coppolo booth for the show and the 2 basses we brought them had Aguilar preamps but Alleva-Coppolo pickups.

I had a chance to talk to Dave about them at the show. Apparently they're winding them in house. They sounded great - I'll have to stick some in my Lull once they start shipping.

That's odd! Sorry for the wrong info.

I was told by Jesse at the Aguilar booth that the Alleva and Lull were both using Aguilar 4-string pickups!

Hey YC,

Regarding the basses in our booth:
The A/C Five string had Jimmy's pickups; but the four had our new pickups and an OBP-3.
The Lull 4 string bass had an OBP-1 and our pickups. We also had a new Spector jazz-style bass called the "Coda", loaded with an OBP-3 and our pickups.
Stuart plans to use an OBP-1 with a passive tone control and our pickups as standard in the bass. IMHO, it was very good jazz bass.
We also had a new Modulus bass that was explorer shaped with one pickup (I don't know whose, a soapbar) with our preamp. All good stuff.

In the next couple weeks we'll do a press release about our pickups.

Thanks,

DB

Cool, that clears it up! I played both the Alleva and the Lull. Both sounded great and the pickups have so much potential. If you have any news on 5 string pickups, I would definitely consider putting a set in the next Lull I get.

Kinda OT but are you guys going to venture into soapbars ala Bartolini?

God Bless, Ray

Yes, but we are going to focus on Jazz and Precision pickups first.

Sorry about that Dave... I read the catalog last night and saw that. I had no idea you guys were doing pickups. I stand corrected.

To edit my previous post, I only walked the 5 string Alleva-Coppolo to the booth and not the 4 string - which I played through that killin' new filter - WOW!!!

Sorry for the confusion everybody.

Great to see you again DB! Go Aguilar!

Going OT and speaking of the pedals.. I've never heard such amazing pedals. Each and every one of them are killing!

Can't wait to hear more on the 5 string J pickups.

Y'know I just happen to have an unaltered Jazz bass.

You guys ought to prewire the pickups onto a Jazz control plate with a pre. A One stop shop

God Bless, Ray
