Aguilar OBP-1, 2 or 3?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi All,

From a strictly tonal perspective, what can I expect between the three?

The EQ points for bass are all the same (40hz), but the treble on the OBP-1 is 4kHz while the OBP-2/3 are both 6.5kHz. Is that a noticeable difference?

I'm not so concerned with the ability to cut freqs or to have a mid control, which is why I'm asking from the perspective of flat or boosted tone only.

If you strongly prefer one over the other, please explain why.

Thanks!

I like the mid control. I generally like to boost 600Hz - 1kHz frequencies. The 800Hz-centered mid control is a great option for that. I trim down everything above 2kHz anyway, so a treble option is pretty moot, IMO.

If you're looking for a set-and-forget kind of tone, or want control in between 40Hz and 4kHz, then having 3-bands might be preferable for you.

The freq of the 2 and 3 for treble is high and you get lots of hiss if it's anywhere above flat. I have the 2 in my Warwick

If you look at any other 3-band preamp on the market, they're all above 10kHz, with some up around 16 or 18kHz. Aguilar's treble frequency is by far the most usable.

That being said, I don't get added hiss - not at all like the hissy Audere that I tried.
