Aguilar OBP-1 and 25k vs. other pots

Sign in to disble this ad
All,

I'm having this preamp installed and the specs call for 25k bass/treble pots. What would be the consequences of installing 50k or 100k pots, instead?

Thanks.

I don't know how the circuit is set up, but they probably wouldn't function well.

25K pots aren't hard to find.

Yeah, I used those when I needed 100K pots, and it worked fine.

While I appreciate the responses, I'm still trying to get an answer to my original question.

What would result from using other than 25k bass/treble stacked pots? Would it affect the tone, fry the preamp, etc.?

The taper of the pot would be all screwed up, and probably have little effect from 25K onward.

It wont do any damage, I'm pretty ceratin 'bout that. Other than that, ask Aguilar, only they could know for shure. Treble might work if (big if) pot is inthere used as buffered resistive divider; bass most cetranly wont. If treble works, and you use 50k dual pot, you could get near enough if you strap 50K resistor across bass pot, but pot law will be screwed somewhat.

Pot laws are always screwed up, why do you think there is so much controversy over them?

What is a "pot law" though?

????????
Relationship of angle of rotation versus resistance at tapper. Lin, Log, Antilog, S. Stuff like that.

There are manufacturers that make true log potentiometers (not this piecewise linear crap), rotary and linear, super nice stuff, but you'll find those in 100k mixing desks, not in guitars.

That's called the taper.

Doesn't the OBP-1 come with bass and treble pots?

I have to go with a stacked bass/treble pot due to my existing configuration, so I have no use for the standard bass and treble pot that is included.
