Aguilar OBP-1 wiring question

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm trying to install an Aguilar OBP-1 in my TPC AP-500M with controls for volume, treble, and bass. I used the schematic that I've attached, but there's something wrong, as all I get is ridiculously loud hum unless i'm touching the plug of my instrument cable. When I do this, I get a little bit of low quality sound, but still a good deal of hum. The only thing I wasn't clear about in the schematic was where to solder the "ground" lead from the pickup and the ground lead from the bridge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

edit: For some reason I can't upload the jpeg so here's where you can find the schematic for now- page 4 is what I used as a reference.

FWIW:

ground is all one circuit so it doesn't matter where in that loop the bridge and pup ground are soldered. Typically they're both soldered to pot back (if a pot lug is grounded to the pot back which is also typical).

Alternatively you can star ground or do otherwise.

If you've got a flushmount (torpedo) jack, something you have to watch for is getting your hot and "nuetral" terminals crossed. The long terminal is invariably ground. The only way I know to figure out the other two is with a meter.

That sounds about right... the only problem is that my jack has three terminals that appear to be equal in length- also, I realized that the volume pot doesn't seem to be working. How can I go about identifying the terminals?

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Show me a few thousand words.

Straighten the jack out and the volume may work. If it's wired according to the diagram there shouldn't be an issue.

Like I said - you use a meter to figure out jack terminals. Meter to the face of the jack and terminal is ground. I have a plug with pigtails and the hot obviously goes to hot. The "neutral" will be the only one left of the three.
