Aguilar Obp-3 + Bartolini soaps..what are the options?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have Aguilar Obp-3 + Bartolini soaps on my 6 string. Im electronically illiterate but my question is: Do I have options with the tone of these pickups as far as wiring goes{aka different frequency options, coil spitting etc?} or are the pickups wired permanently and the tone is what it is?

if your barts are 4 conductor dual coil, you can coil split and/or series / parallel wire with a DPDT 2 way, or a 3 way on-on-on. as far as the OBP-3 there are a few options you can use. you can push pull between 400hz and 800hz on the mid level (or use a DPDT switch). I have the wiring diagram that I got from bestbassgear.com regarding the OBP-3 somewhere. There were a few other mid range things you could do. I opted for the standard 400-800 switch. also, you can have an active / passive switch. A really nice adition to the active passive switch is a dedicated passive tone knob as well. so that should give you a multitude of wiring options!

I know there is a push pull with the mids but im not sure of the hz. What would the pros/cons of the series/parallel thing aside from output volume?

the push pull mid selector stock setting id 400hz and 800hz
In general, a pickup wired in series will have a fuller and fatter midrange with a subdued high end than a pickup wired in parallel, which will typically have more highs and a deeper low end with a cleaner midrange. Series pickups also have more output than parallel pickups

Bassically, loaded with 2 bartolini dual coils, with series/parallel/single coil switch on each pup, and an OBP-3 with a 400 / 800 Hz switch and a active/passive bypass with a dedicated passive tone knob. Your bass would grow exponentially with the number of tonal variations you could accomplish

sorry about my lack of knowledge about preamps and pickups.. hope you can help me out
so, I bought a Cort RB5 korean bass that the electronics was upgraded with OBP3 preamps and barts USA which i can't find out what model it is, the seller says that those barts pu belongs to some handmade bass..
1. So how to find out that those barts pickup was dual coils or not?
2. can we wire the OBP3 midrange frequency from 400hz-800hz to 3 selectable freq just like NTMB does?
