So I recently grabbed a Kona 5 string on a barter deal with a friend.. Paid very little for it but when I plugged it in it was the worst bass sound I ever heard... playability was pretty good but the tone was just blah, no definition, no high end, no mids, just flubby low end... I was going to just return it but instead I hit Amazon for an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp and a few bucks for my buddy to install it.. Instant great bass for a fraction of the cost.. looks decent, plays easily and now sounds like a $1000 dollar bass for a really small fraction of the cost..
