| Hello, heh. I'm the Dave Mr. Sims refers to in the thread title. I think what Mr. Sims, and me as well, is askin, Whether or not the Aguilar OBP 3 has the same type of high end that its sister, the OBP 1, has. Recently he and I played his '73 Fender Jazz, loaded wit an Aguilar OBP 1 and a set of Dimarzio Ultra J pickups. I was skeptical of the Aguilar, and am currently tryin to find a pre I like for a 5 string Darryl Jones. When we plugged in his
'73, the tone was truly nice. Very open, natural top end, that really had a bite. The OBP 1 is all boost, the other Aguilar pres are cut/boost. First, I'm wonderin about the differences in the Aguilar preamps. Second, I believe I agree, and said so to Mr. Sims, that the Bart preamps are pretty natural soundin. I think they are a bit more aggressive, but I haven't heard the Aguilars at 18v hooked up to a set of humbuckers like in the MTD Mr. Sims is playin. We liked the top end in his Jazz so much, I'd like to have that type of top end sound in a bass myself. Think he's wonderin if the Aguilar a wise investment for his MTD. I think the Bart preamp sounds fantastic. I've heard his bass. He'd like a more "passive" type tone in it. That I can sympathize wit. I have a Smith 6 that does ALmost everythin, but had to have a passive J for what it didn't. I'm thinkin maybe Mr. Sims has same type of idea, and wonderin if the Aguilar might add a passive quality to his bass.
