Aguilar OBP in a Epi T-Bird?

Sign in to disble this ad
First of all I must say I love my LE white Epi T-Bird. For my current project it looks extremely sexy and sounds pretty good....

I've only done a couple of mods to basses in all the years I've been playing but would sort of like to see if I could brighten up this Epi Bird.

So it's got the Epi pickups and it's passive- lots of output but a little shy in the high end. I've read about people putting the Aguilar OBP's into SX's and other low end basses with good results...... is this a possible option for the Epi Bird? I know it will change the sound somewhat, but would it work with the stock pickups?

I did a search and didn't turn up much- I'd appreciate any input. THX

I love the Aguilar, but if memory serves, the problem is that the pickups are inherently quite dark. Are you looking for the onboard EQ control, or are you looking for a tonal change? I'll let the other T-Bird players chime in on this, but I'm thinking a pickup upgrade and new strings might be the way to go for tone change.

Them new Lollar T-Bird pickups might be a better option.

The OBP series are preamps, not pickups, I thought.
