Aguilar OBP3 in Douglas 6 String?

Will this work?

I'd like to get the OBP3 preamp with the stacked mid/treble control. Is this the way to go to improve the tone, or would new pickups be a better decision?

Also, there is an option for a passive/active switch, will this work with the pickups that are already in it?
