aguilar vs sadowsky 2 band pre-amp

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone out there have experience with both the sadowsky on-board pre-amp in relation to the aguilar 2 band. I am prepping for a pre-amp and would like some perspective one over the other... I am considering Nordstrand singles as well.
Thanks for any insight.

Bump. I'm looking at that same Aggy pre for my Jazz Bass... I wouldn't mind knowing more about it, either.

I replaced all the guts in my Fender USA 5 with a Sadowsky VTC pre and Sadowsky SC pups. Winning combination there. Now a poor mans Sadowsky....had an Aggie OBP 2 once and didnt care for it, not saying they're bad pre's, just not my sound.

I had the OBP-1 in a '76 Jazz. (Talk about killer...) I also borrowed a Sadowsky outboard for a while. Similar concept (bass/treble boost-only) and both are nice & musical. The OBP-1 is 18V - IME it's slightly tighter and more neutral than the Sadowsky, but the bass and/or treble boost can be truly massive.

I haven't tried the OBP-2 but I like a good 9V 2-band boost/cut onboard pre. (With the option to go 18V.)

If I was doing an install, I'd be hard-pressed to choose between these three. Deciding 9 or 18V, boost only or boost/cut would be the biggest determining factor.

I have an OBP-1 in my Marcus Miller Jazz and I also have a sadowsky bass and a sadowsky preamp pedal. As Jefenator mentioned, IMO the aggie is a little more transparent. I think the bass boost on the aggie sounds bigger.

In my Marcus Miller, the aggie is wired for 9v with no problems.
