Alembic or MEC in a Warwick?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, I'd like to get some opinions on this. I recently bought a Warwick Streamer LX and overall I'm happy with the sound. I also have an old Alembic active splitcoil pickup laying from from an old bass I used to have when I was primarily a guitar player. I'm considering swapping out the stock MEC for the Alembic. Anybody have any opinions on this? Or how it might affect the tone? Thanks !

I had a Thumb 5 BO and had the MEC 2-band pre replaced with an EMG BQC 3-band pre with variable mid. This really opened up the sound and inceased the tonal versatility!!!!

mec

i had a couple of Warwicks and found that the emg and the mec are nearly same sound, which makes sense, since the original pickups in Warwicks i believe were Emgs, and the company probably wanted to save money and copy the EMGs with another vendor.
I tend to think the MEC or EMG works fine with warwick, try swapping the preamp, the EMG onboard will make a big change from an MEC preamp
