All change - Barts to Nordstrand

Sign in to disble this ad
Been considering a change in my 5 string bass, currently have Bartolini 5 string dual coils (P2) and now have a set of Nordstrand dual coils to fit

My current set up is with a Bartolini pre amp, with 2 small 3 way switches for switching between coils. This does cause a few problems due to the switches being very close to the pots, I sometimes knock them out of position when adjusting volume or pick up pan.

I liked the sound of some nordstrands i tried and have managed to get myself a pair of dual coils. I am also considering a new pre amp, probably East J Retro deluxe.
The Nordstrands I have, have the red and white wire taped together for series operation. The previous owner told me he had a switch with the pick ups, a coil tap? I want to know how this would have worked with both p/ups currently wired to be used as series. I was going to use the pickups in series as they are currently wired, but may consider adding a small switch if I can use it to give some added tonal options!

I hope my post my sence!

Thanks

Tony

I have a set of Nordy dual coils in one of my basses. If you like options then the coil switching is a great add. I've got one 4pull/ double throw on/on/on mini switch that changes both pickups series/ single coil (outers)/ parallel, two on/on/on would offer more options but i didn't want to drill any more holes. If you like to set and forget, parallel is real good choice IMHO.

Thanks, that is the answer I was looking for, the two switches I have now is just too much, plus the east pre I am considering already has two small switches, the addition of a 3rd would be fine, but another two would be too much I think
I'm already talking to John about modding the tone pot to push pull for the LED's, or moving the passive / active switch to the tone pot (push/pull) to free up a toggle switch for the LEDS (side of neck only!)

Thx

Tony
