Are all Epiphone Rivoli basses noisy?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have just acquired a 90's Epiphone Rivoli bass and find the bass is noisy (pickup hum) no matter what patch cord I use.

I have found I can minimize the noise by moving where the bass is relative to my amp but the hum never disappears entirely.

I don't have this hum with my Jazz bass or Precision in the same amp. I've tried the Rivoli in different amps and hear the hum in all of them.

Are all Epiphone Rivolis from this era noisy?

Have you ever heard of a simple way to reduce the noise? I have read about additional sheilding in the body cavity and the use of noise gates but wondering if there are other strategies.

Thanks for sharing any experience you have with this!

the stock pickup is a humbucker, so it shouldn't be noisy. could be a ground issue or perhaps the output jack needs to be replaced.
