The all-inclusive SCPB PICKUP SPECS thread

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm starting this thread with the intentions of gathering info on all SCPB pickups made by any manufacturer.

Whatever technical specs you know will be welcomed, stuff like DCR, year (on originals), magnet type, wire gauge...anything you know about how the pickup was made.

A brief overview of the sound would be informative as well.

It'll be like a disorganized database, but at least it'll be in one thread.

Fender CIJ '51 RI
7.47 K ohms, 5mm alnico rods, ccw, 42?
Didn't sound that great...this is the one many guys replace

Jay Turser '55 SCPB
7.15 K ohms, alnico rods, ccw, 42
Sounded better than the CIJ '51 RI IMO

Fender CIJ '51 RI
8.07 K ohms, 5mm alnico rods, ccw, 42?
Haven't tried it yet

Edit: TIA to all who help.

Well, I'll jump in if it's any help--

Custom '51 PB from Vintage Vibe Guitars-www.vintagevibeguitars.com

11.000 turns (wire size not specified)
clockwise wind
DC resistance-8.7 k ohms
Magnetic polarity-North up
Magnets-AlNiCo
Magnet size-6 mm
Magnetic field strength- -1.10 k Gauss average
Black lead is ground, white is hot
Wax potted, internally shielded
cost-$85 US

Sound-big and round, even across the strings, lots of top end definition. Much hotter than the stock Squier SCPB pickup it replaced. Responds well to difference in attack. Sounds fantastic with a pick. Played fingerstyle and with flatwounds it is sort of in between a stock SCPB and a split coil P. Better bass, more mids, less top end sizzle than the stock Squier.
Noise is slightly less.

I have no technical specs on the stock Squier SCPB. To my ears it's not bad but a bit harsh on the top end. It's a pretty hot pickup too as far as output goes.

Hope this helps.

Very few manufacturers post them, but I would like to see capacitance and inductance gathered, more than wire size.

Sounds like a big undertaking - but I will appreciate it when you're done
