Are All Pots the Same?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone,

I'm a bit electronically challenged when it comes to the guts of my basses. I recently learned that the Tone and Volume pots are the same animal (in my current project 250 kHz), just one gets a cap connected to it (Tone) and the other just regulates the juice (Volume). My real question is what about the Balance Pot? I imagine there are fancier versions, say one with a centered detante' (spelling?) but would a Balance pot be the same as the Volume and Tone and it's just up to the wiring schematic to determine how the pot acts within the circuit or do I need to research "Balance" Pots? Please advise.

Thanks Again All,

Play On!

short answer: there are plenty of different pots ranging from no load to 1mg to 500k to 250k, etc. there are also linear taper pots and audio taper pots, designed to make a smoother taper due to the human's hearing abilities.

as far as blend pots go, i imagine they are what i would call typical pots. FYI ive read alot around here that if you decide to blend, it is best to have an active system. also note that you do not need pots for an instrument to make sound through an amp.

blend pots are not the same as the volume/tone knobs, they are dual pots, which means it has 2 sets of resistances on one shaft.
