I've been told many times and i've seen a few threads that were mentioning 11" to the centerline where both bass and treble pickups meet....

Thanks i really appreciate it. so 11 1/8" from the 12th fret to the middle of magnet poles and bass side!

i'm i right?

thanks

It is Perfectly 11 1/8" from the 12th fret to the dead center of the bass side pole of the traditional split p pup. Precisely.

My 2006 USA P is exactly 11 1/2 inches from the 12th fret to where the two pickups meet. My Squier P is a about 11 5/8 inches.

it's funny cause 11 1/8" (middle of bass side poles)

and 11 1/2" to the centerline don't match, it chouls be more like 11 5/8" centerline

Should i go with the USA p bass or the squier, LOL

funny fender

Just for reference... Im measuring a USA body(late 90s),with a Warmoth Neck. When I put the new neck on, I also put the same strings back on, the intonation was still just about perfect. I believe I have a pretty standard P-bass, as far as the measurements are concerned.

On my '87 MIJ P, the distance from the center of the 12th fret wire to the center of the bass side poles is exactly 11". Interesting.

I think if you're off by as much as 1/8" it probably won't make that big of a difference in tone. You're still in the Precision "sweet spot" and there are more important things *I* personally feel, such as the pickups you use, and the guts (tone cap etc..) that get you to the Precision tone you desire.

As long as you're in the ballpark, it's still going to sound like a P. The above mentioned things will just get you closer.

i totally agree that 1/8 of an inch is nothing. I just think it's funny that the biggest Musical instrument brand on earth have so many different spec for the same instrument....

i've been told between 11",11.5" and 11.625" from 12th fret to the centerline where both pickup meets....

That's funny or Scarry???

LOL

make your own decision. closer to the bridge will be more defined with a bit less bottom end, and the opposite has the opposite effect.

If...

If you're actually gonna have a pickguard installed, may I suggest using a standard pickguard (or 2) as a reference. As said previously, 1/8 inch or less variation shouldn't make that much of a difference sonically but this method should get you closer to the correct route while having the ability to use almost any pickguard as well as saving you some time fitting one in properly.
