Alnico pickups...?

Sign in to disble this ad
What are the advantages, or what is so good about alnico pickups?

I want to buy an Ibanez SRX series bass. I get the srx300 or 390 or about 300 dollars i think, but then when you go up and price and get the SRX590 or so it has a heavier and bigger bridege, which i know i like, but instead of the PRF pickups in the SRX300, the higher models have thhe alnico magnets pickups.

Does it give you a different sound or tone? I am basicaly getting one of these basses for a great low end and pucnhy tone

thanks

Alnico V magnes have a smoother tone with more low mids. If you're looking for a more modern high tech sound they might not be right for you. But if you want fat bottom(think motown/Jamerson), then they are the way to go.

Im thinking more punchy bright growly and powerful.

I am going to get one of the SRX series and tune it in Drop C in my metal band, so i want my tone to cut through.

so you think the lower end models of the SRX's woiuld be better for me cause they have the PRF pickups, which im assuming are not alnico?

thanks
