alnico vs ceramic

Sign in to disble this ad
i did a search and found some into in the archives but i want to see what TB thinks now.

this is for a project i am planning.
i had an ephiany today started pricing and planning,
and im excited.
i will release the project info once i get a render done of it.

anyway, i was looking at some seyour duncan pups and begain doing some research about the differences between alnico and ceramic pickups.

from what i have read ceramic pickups have a much hotter output than alnico, and that alnico have a more natural, smooth sound to them.

anyone have some info?

I like Alnico better, basically cause I don't need too much output, just a nice warm, natural tone from instrument.
But it is just a matter of taste, there's no right and wrong.
Best thing is try and see what you like.

I prefer the combination of ceramic p'ups + nickel strings ...

SD SMB4d + DR Sunbeams,
DM Split P + TI Jazz flats,
Barden J's(?) + DR Hellborg rounds,
DM Model J + TI Jazz rounds,
Kent Armstrong HBMN1 + SIT Power Core rounds

Ceramic sounds very "harsh" to me. More high end, I think.
