Alternate pickups for Lakland 55-94.

Who makes MM-J sets that drop into a 55-94? I've got Barts now, and I'm assuming EMG makes 'em, but how about somebody like Nordstrand or Fralin?

hey munj, im pretty sure there are atleast a coupel people on TB who have basslines or nordstrand MM+J setups in their 55-02's or 55-94's.

i would bet that just about any custom pickup company liek nordstrand, lindy fralin, aero, etc...would make a replacement set for you though. good luck though! sound clip comparisons when it goes down? pretty please...

Thanks guys. I'd like to try some Nordstrands if he makes them, but I don't see them on his site.

Lakland, Nordstrand, or Delano would be the ones I'd try. I like the Lakland pre itself a lot, as well.

sure, nordstrand has a drop in mm replacement in 2 and 4 coil varities. Just specify its for a lakland bass. Not sure if the jazz is a narrow or wide covered version, but we make those too.

Before you mod the bass though, how are the Barts? I think they are pretty cool stock. Is there something in particular in your sound that you are interested in changing?

Also, there is a wide range of seymour duncan mm's to consider.

Why not give a chance to EMGs? Never heard of EMGs in Laklands.

I'm going to call Brian at Lakland today and see about the Lakland pickups. I'm trying to brighten up the Barts. I'll check out the Nordstrands, too.

Hi, I've gone from Barts to Nordies in my 55-94 and am quite happy. Check this old thread out:

I thought the Nordies that fit Laklands were just the MM5.2(or .3 or .4) and one of the NJ5's. You can order them from www.bestbassgear.com.

I've only seen Barts, Seymours, Nordies, Laklands and Delanos in 55-94s. Never seen an EMG on one, but I bet you could special order it-- that would have to sound pretty cool.

Duncans used to be an option on the 55 and 44 series. I had a 44-02 with Duncans in it and it killed. Definitely "stingray-esque".

I'll bet the Duncans rock! I always wondered which ones they used, maybe a special version made for Lakland?

Just put a set of Delanos in my 55-94. It's an old bass so the PUs are 4 string size. Delano makes a set to fit. Also changes to a Glockenklang 3 band pre. I've played this out a few times now and it is the cleanest sound I ever had. I switched it to 18v to get some more push out of it. Net, Delanos claims in their website are no BS. Kinda wish I had tried the Delanos with the Bart pre before I switched but oh well.
