Am. Fender deluxe Jazz Bass - Trouble shooting electronics

Sign in to disble this ad
My 2004 MIA Deluxe Jazz Bass just died. Checked the pu's and battery with muliti meter. They appear OK. Pots seem to register on the meter.

How do I check the circuit board with the meter to determine if replacement necessary?

Any other thoughts on testing with the meter?

Many thanks and happy holidays.

do a "noise trace";

plug in the bass, with the amp turned up a bit, and start touching the "hot" contacts to listen for the buzz. start at the jack, then go to the next thing the jack's hot lead is attached to, listening for the buzz each time. where there's no buzz is where the signal is getting lost.

also, check (with the meter set to DC volts) where the 9V positive goes to the preamp board, relative to ground; you should get a good 8-9 volts.
