amateur question concerning electronics

i use active emg P/J pickups with active emg electronics

my tech said he preferred bartolini electronics better

what aspect of your tone would the electronics affect? i thought the tone was determined by the bass, strings, pickups

why would one electrincs be better than the other?

has anyone compared emg electronics to bartolini electronics?

thanks

forgot to add "other" to the poll - those suggestions are welcomed too.

These brands produce very different pickups. On the other hand, electronics to my ears sound very similar. An EQ is an EQ is...

I have Barts in my bass. The tone comes from a combination of electronics, strings, wood combo of the bass itself, and the amp and cab you are using.
I play a pre-Gibson Tobias built in 1988 with Barts. Tobias basses of that era are notorious for their monster tone and quality build.

Question

On a similar note, why are active electronics so ubiquitous on basses but not guitars? Even with EMG or Blackout equipped guitars, it's rare to see on-board EQ. Is it because there's a relative scarcity of external EQ's with enough adjustability in the ranges most critical for bass? (I'm guessing that's something like 30-1000Hz?)
