| I've had that same pre and also now have a pair of basses with Audere pre's. Prior to the Audere, the Fender deluxe was my fav. Now it's the Audere. They are actually somewhat similar but the Audere has the Z-mode which is a huge advantage. It is also a little more clear and while I don't use the EQ (on my J style) all that much - it is voiced well for my uses.
Along the path of my preamp amble I also tried The U-Retro Deluxe (in a J) and a Bartolini (Courtesy of Lakland 44-02). Neither of those lasted long.
So me ? I'd say go for it. These things never drop below $120 in the used market so in the odd event that you really don't like it but keep it beyond the trial period - the sting would be minimal. My guess is that you'll like what it brings.
You do have to spend a little dialing in time with the low-z mode to find the balance of apparent low end boost and with the 'hi-z' mode to find the appropriate capacitance for your pickup set. Getting those two things dialed can take a little time as you tweak - listen, live with it a bit, re-tweak, repeat as necessary... but then you have 3 super usable variations - on a switch - that's why my EQ is flat most of the time. Pretty much for me it's hand placement, z-mode and the blend.
