American Std pickups on a Fender Jaguar?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi All:

My Main Gig Axe is a Am Std 2001 Jazz bass with Nordstrand pickups that I change lot time ago.The Swap to Nordtrands was definately worth But I remeber very well that the original pickups werent that bad at all (some unbalance string to string playing live but not that bad)

Yesterday I took my Jaguar and AM Std to the gig and played with both basses between songs. I try from Flat to radical Eq and the Jag never get closer to the American Standard both on output and tone. (Comparing them passive, I never use the preAmp on the jag)

Do you guys thinks it's worth try a swap the jag pickups with the original Am Std pickups?

Ya I'd go for it even though Am. Std. Jazz pups aren't what they should be, its better than the Mexican pups in the Jag.

the jag pickups are not mexi, but MIJ. like the mexis, they're cheap steel slugs with a ceramic magnet glued to the bottom. the alnico rod american standards will be a big upgrade.

I have a 2003 MIA Jazz, which I upgraded with noiseless Fralins, but I agree the stock pickups were quite good in their own right. They recorded extremely well. I've kept them around partly to have the stock p'ups if I want to sell, but also for a situation exactly like this -- if I get an inexpensive or project J that could use an upgrade. I say go for it.
