Angled bridge pickup positioning is for??

Balancing tone from string to string?

I pluck directly over the typical bridge soapbar location and have to follow an angled path across the strings to balance the tone of the bark. That's what got me to questioning the design. It's can be cumbersome to follow the strings in that pattern vs. accepting the tone 'as is' going straight across.

If this is the reason for the design, are there soapbars that simulate the result within th confines of a normal soapbar route?

Iv'e not seen one on a bass. On a strat, the ppickup is angled to accentuate the lows on the wound strings and the highs on the plains. Of course, hendrix's ended up being backwards, and some folks think this actually makes a subtly better tone.
